Let's Play: Captain Novolin

How bad can a game about a diabetic superhero be? Well...let's find out.

The Amazing Spider Man: Reboot

Okay, so I know everyone has been asking why Spider Man needed a reboot.I mean, the Tobey Maguire versions only came out...in 2002. Huh, ten years ago. Man, I'm old.

Fine, so it has been a decade since Maguire's version. So how does the movie look? Well, story-wise, it looks fine. It's the origin story again, and I don't see anything from the trailer that indicates it's going to be a betrayal. I could be wrong, but it looks fine so far.

So what about the costume?
Again, nothing wrong with it. It has a more detailed, high-tech look about it, which raises questions about how a kid like Peter Parker was able to get it, but hey, maybe they'll explain it in the movie. I guess this costume is based more on the Ultimate universe, keeping in line with most of the Marvel movies coming out now.

There is, however, one glaring problem I have with this reboot that irritates me every single time I see news about it: the casting and costume design for Peter Parker. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Andrew Garfield as a person, and I'm sure he's a great guy and all, but just look at this picture.
Man, I am so fashionably nerdy it hurts.
This is not a socially award geek. This is the popular image of a geek that girls are thinking of when they wear their "I <3 Nerds" t-shirts, aka not really a nerd at all. Pro-tip: that statement really translates out into, "I <3 hot guys who wear glasses. That's really what I <3."

Say what you will about Tobey Maguire's personality, or professionalism on the set, but he was a nerd. He was pale and socially inept, like Peter Parker should be. This Peter Parker looks like he's going to go take some artsy photos before going to play bass in his indie garage band. You want to know what's a media that got nerds right?
Feast your eyes ladies. That's the haircut, nose and complexion of the homo geekus.
Howard from "The Big Bang Theory" is a nerd. Go ahead an compare the two pictures. I'll wait.
...
...
You done? Good. I hope you found the differences between the two. Now, this is not rage against hipsters, despite the indie band comment, it's just that the Maguire movies got the character of Parker down so well, and I can only bring myself to dread what's going to happen to him in this flick.
Mind telling me HOW your hair remained perfectly styled after taking your mask off?

Let's Play: Ultima VI, part 4!

So...much...text...

Forums? On MY Website? It's more likely than you think.

Hey everybody, guess what? Geekasaurus Mike now has a Forums page! That's right, at the upper right hand corner, just under the title and just left of the twitter feed, there is now a forum link. Go, log on, frolic through the fields of threads! Well, growing fields of threads...

The first person on gets...er...my gratitude, I suppose.

Anyway, while I've got you all here, the new Ultima Let's Play will be up as soon as I get to somewhere worth making a video about, otherwise it'll just be me walking through some woods. New Third Panel Review is written, and I'm putting a much free time as I can into getting production on it going. Keep in mind, though, I'm still trying that whole graduating college thing, and finding a job, so my time may be limited. All I ask for is your patience.

Anyway, that's all the news I have for you guys today. See you next time.

Teenge Mutant Ninja Turtles+Michael Bay=?????

Hollywood is nothing if not consistent. If a movie makes it big, you can bet they'll turn the production of that genre up to overdrive, causing and explosion of mediocre, uninspired, rushed-out the-door bastardized versions of their source material to cash in on the success of a single film.

Oh wait? Did I say explosions? You know what that means: it's Michael Bay time!

Yes, Michael Bay is back for (God help us) Transformers 4, but more recently, it's been revealed that he will be at the helm of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. He's resurrected one 80's franchise with...let's just say spotty success, so it only makes sense for him to lead another. What's his first move? Over-sexualizing April O'Neal to the point of being unrecognizable, or worse yet, played by Megan Fox?

No, his first move was to announce that his version of the Turtles is to make them aliens.

Okay...Michael...I understand you've been successful, and that maybe you think you're entitled to make a few artistic changes to the source material, and usually I would defend that kind of thing. Movies, after all, can't reasonably be expected to exactly copy the TV show, book, comic, toy or what have you, despite fan outcry. However, Mr. Bay, I would like to point out part of the show that I'm sure you might have looked into: the title of the entire franchise

See, there are a few things here that you're contradicting, specifically the mutant and the turtles part. If the turtles are part of an alien race that looks like turtles, then they are no longer mutants, and even if their species just looks like turtles, they still aren't turtles. They're aliens. That's half of the very title of the movie that you've made utterly moot in one fell swoop. And people complained about the design of Optimus Prime in Transformers...

Okay, so to be totally honest, I'm not all that peeved about it. Yeah, sure, when I first heard about it I was ready to spawn a table out of rage just to flip it, but the more I thought about it, the less of a big deal it became. First, this would only be the third worst thing to happen to TMNT after the “Coming Out of Their Shell” and Venus De Milo.
EVERY OUNCE OF MY HATE

And besides, as far as comic book re-imaginings and reboots go, just changing their origin is fairly tame. I mean, who's to say they weren't sent down as turtles, along with the ooze, so they could pull an Aliens and combine with the DNA of a native species? There are a dozen ways to make this work, and even if they don't bother to try to fit it in previous continuity, is that really why you're going to see a Michael Bay adaptation in the first place? No. You go to see explosions. And if I can guarantee one thing, it will be explosions.

And hopefully a lack of Venus De Milo.
MY HATE. ALL OF IT.
